How to set up your UiPath infrastructure to support attended automation?

Automation journeys in companies usually start with unattended bots that do some automations in the background running on servers. In some companies, those unattended bots are complemented with attended bots that work as personal assistant of an individual person. The latter work on the same PC as a user and are started by that user when needed via a robot user interface.

I must admit that while doing consultancy work, unless it was absolutely necessary, I would generally avoid recommending attended robots for one simple reason: a running robot on your PC would mean that you cannot do any work during that time. This changed in May 2020, when UiPath released an experimental feature called PiP (Picture in Picture) which overcomes this very issue. With the 2020.10.2 release, UiPath made this feature production ready, but only recently, after having the chance to personally test and work with PiP, I'm sure that it is a game-changing feature for attended automation.

In order to provide you a big picture, let’s start off with the basics: I want to shed some light into the DU pipeline that documents flow through from a scanned image to being integrated in an automated business process.
